| This is a steakhouse located at a tourist area in Kitano, Kobe city, well-known for Western-style residences built for Westerners about 100 years ago. We renovated a glass-walled house which was used as a clothing shop. In this case, the interior design directly defines the exterior because of its glass wall. Therefore, the way to light the interior was a challenge for us. The owner requested a bit of Japanese taste for the design to contrast with the good old Western-style buildings nearby. The decorative pattern surrounding the vented hood above the kitchen is a traditional Japanese called ASAGARA, inserted between a mirror and half mirror to create optically layered images. The customers enjoy the view from inside, whereas the Japanese-style garden along the inner periphery appropriately obstructs the passengers' vision from outside. |
